Self-Care Spotlight: Mental & Emotional ✨

Mental and emotional self-care is all the rage these days, and there’s a reason for it too. Taking care of our minds is more important than ever - between this roller coaster of a year, work and staying on-track for the day-to-day. Once upon a time, mental health wasn’t a thing - or was it?

I’ve read in books (fiction if I’m being completely transparent), of doctors prescribing “sun and warm weather and relaxation” for illnesses. We think “Oh, that’s some old-time stuff” - but is there a truth to it? It actually makes sense, when we burn out, rejuvenation is required for us to get back to feeling full and able to continue on with our lives.

Unfortunately, sometimes it’s really hard to just up and leave, and good luck finding a doctor who prescribes this to you (if you do please refer me!), so in the meantime, here are some things that you CAN do without taking a full-fledge vacation.

Try these Actions:

🌟Therapy: Hire a therapist. I’m just going to say it, because there is a ton of value in having one, and let’s normalize therapy shall we? We’ve all been through tough shit.

❌Saying “no” and setting boundaries: Don’t want to go to that event you were invited to? Simply say “no thank you” and you will be amazed at how liberated you feel. You do not owe anyone anything, you are not obligated to be social, and the only person who feels bad when you feel bad for saying “no” is … you. Don’t be afraid to lay those boundaries if there’s something you don’t want to or aren’t willing to do. You’ll thank yourself later.

✏️Journaling: There’s something freeing about having the words flow from your head to through your arm, and out your pen onto paper. It’s a brain dump except you actually feel lighter after you’ve done it.

🧿Meditating: Take a few moments today and just sit in silence. If this is hard for you, pull up a 3-minute guided meditation on YouTube (check out my website for some beautiful ones that I enjoy doing).

Try these Affirmations:

✨I am enough.

✨I am worthy.

✨I choose to see the beauty in things and I am surrounded by beauty.
